The Virginia Dept. of Transportation has finalized funding agreements for the largest project in the agency’s history—the $3.8-billion expansion of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. HDR and Mott MacDonald are lead designers for the Dragados USA-led design-build team that will add two bored two-lane tunnels adjacent to existing 7,500-ft-long tubes that opened in 1957 and 1976. Up to 100,00 vehicles per day move through the tunnels. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the project will also widen the Interstate 64 approaches to the crossing in Hampton and Norfolk.

In Seattle, Sound Transit has selected WSP USA to perform design-build project management services for the Downtown Redmond Link Extension, the East Link light-rail transit corridor’s final segment.
Extending from the Redmond Technology Station currently under construction, the 3.4-mile double-track project will include both elevated and at-grade sections as well as two stations and a parking garage.
