斯坦福大学的西尔·帕卡德儿童医院公关oject, which is the first LEED Platinum children’s hospital on the West Coast, has been 12 years in the making. The 521,000-sq-ft building adds 149 patient beds and includes a new imaging and surgery center. The project team incorporated recycled materials and renewable energy systems such as a wind turbine into the hospital’s design and construction. Water-efficient landscaping and collection systems are expected to save 800,000 gallons of water annually, and ventilation and shading systems will help reduce thermal energy use by 60% compared with similar hospitals. Technology advancements in medical equipment progressed at a faster rate than the building process, which required design development and final imaging equipment selection to occur concurrently with construction. Building the 361-bed hospital required 50 designers, design-builders and design-assist subcontractors. The team used BIM throughout the project, obtaining more than 15 permits and approvals from multiple state and local authorities.
